Virginia (Jennie) Johnston Barnhardt, MD, received her undergraduate degree from Davidson College and graduated from medical school at UNC-Chapel Hill. Originally from Mount Airy, she currently lives in Marshall. Dr. Barnhardt completed a residency in Family Medicine with Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC). She has been in practice with Hot Springs Health Program (HSHP) since 1992. She is board certified in Family Medicine.

Teresa K. Bradley, MD, received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and graduated from medical school at East Carolina University School of Medicine. Dr. Bradley completed a residency program at University Medical Center of Eastern North Carolina, Pitt County. Dr. Bradley is board certified in Family Medicine. She is originally from Marshall, and currently lives in Clyde. Dr. Bradley has recently joined HSHP and we welcome her to our family. Dr. Bradley enjoys the great staff and variety of medical care HSHP offers to all ages for both chronic and acute care. She enjoys working in her hometown with its rich heritage and promoting good healthcare locally. Dr. Bradley is married with 3 boys. She recently went on a medical mission trip to Honduras.

Ruth Loretta Coates, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), received her RN degree from Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College, NC. She received her BSN degree from Winston Salem State University, Winston Salem, NC. She received her MSN degree as well as a Family Nurse Practitioner certification from East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN. Loretta Coates has worked with HSHP for 3 years. She is a native of Alexander, and currently lives in Petersburg. She says getting to know the children and their families are what she enjoys most about serving Madison County. Loretta also enjoys the caring staff at HSHP and their willingness to go the extra step for the people of Madison County.

Janice Noel Coverdale, MD, received her undergraduate education from Centre College of Kentucky in Danville. She received her medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and also studied neurobiology at Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Coverdale completed a residency in Pediatrics with the University of Louisville School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics, Children's Hospital. She grew up in Bowling Green, KY, has been in practice since 1979, and has been a member of the HSHP medical staff since 1981. Active in many professional and community organizations, she serves as director of Pediatric Services for the Madison County Health Department and is past president of the Mountain Pediatric Society. She is a member of the North Carolina Pediatric Society and a former member of the Graham Children's Hospital Regional Board. Dr. Coverdale lives in Madison County. She most enjoys watching her young patients grow into great adults, and working with a very supportive staff. She enjoys serving Madison County and being involved long-term with a community that works well together.

Marianna T. Daly, MD, MPH, received her undergraduate degree from Princeton University in 1979 and graduated from medical school at East Carolina in 1985. She also holds a Master of Public Health degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Daly is originally from Durham and now resides in Asheville. She completed a residency in family medicine with MAHEC. Dr. Daly is board certified and has been in practice with HSHP since 1988. She most enjoys working with HSHP patients, and the feeling of camaraderie with staff. She enjoys serving Madison County and the strong sense of community; developing long term relationships with patients, and working toward changes in the public health of Madison County. Her special interests are rural health care, community-oriented primary care and medical ethics.

Paul W. Dempsey, Pharm.D., received a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington, a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from Medical University of South Carolina and a Pharm D (Doctor of Pharmacy) degree at the UNC School of Pharmacy.  He is originally from Clinton, NC and currently resides in Mars Hill with his wife Paula and their two boys, Joel and David. Away from work, Paul enjoys playing and teaching tennis, and refereeing soccer. Paul says he most enjoys working with providers and staff at all the HSHP centers, and being able to make an impact through pharmacy services on underserved parts of the county. Paul has worked with HSHP since 1999.

Kimberly N. Heiselman, MD, received her undergraduate education from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, and her medical degree from the University of Rochester. She is a native of Rochester, NY. Dr. Heiselman completed a residency in family practice and the Rural Medicine Fellowship at MAHEC. Dr. Heiselman is board certified. She has been in practice since 1995. Dr. Heiselman currently resides in Weaverville. She enjoys working as a team with the HSHP staff. She sees the care and concern the staff have for the people of Madison County, and the grace and good humor with which people face adversity.

Ronda Hensley, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is a native of Madison County and currently lives in Mars Hill with her husband Wayne and their two children. In the early 1990’s Hensley was employed by the Hot Springs Health Program at the front desk and as clinical assistant and later returned in 1997 as clinical supervisor after receiving her RN licensure. She later attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN where she received a Master of Science in Nursing. Her internship for the FNP program was done at Mars Hill Medical Center. “I like the rural area and working here in Madison County where I have always lived.” says Hensley. She is most excited about having the opportunity to see a variety of patients ranging from children and adults to geriatrics.  Hensley stated that she “really likes to work with older adults.”

Steve Johnson, DO, received his undergraduate degree in medical technology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.  He worked as a laboratory technologist before obtaining his medical degree from Des Moines University - Osteopathic Medical Center in Iowa.  He completed his residency training at East Tennessee University and is board certified in family medicine.  He enjoys seeing patients of all ages and has a special interest in osteopathy.  He is a native of Texas.  He lives in Asheville with his wife and two boys.  His personal interests include travel, hiking and music.  He plays several musical instruments and loves the local culture and mountain music.

F. B. Jones, MD, is a graduate of Davidson College and received his medical degree from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. He is originally from Forest City. He completed a residency in family practice with MAHEC. Dr. Jones has been in practice with HSHP since 1979. He currently lives in Shelton Laurel. Dr. Jones says he most enjoys serving the people of Madison County with their self sustaining pride and independence. He feels Hot Springs Health Program is a community/patient focused practice which tries to offer the county the most comprehensive care in the most cost effective way. Dr. Jones is the Medical Director of HSHP.

Ginny Koranek, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), received her RN degree from Brackenridge Hospital School of Nursing in Austin, TX. She received her BSN degree from Western Carolina University and certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Originally from Mouton, Texas, Ginny Koranek has been a Family Nurse Practitioner since 1977 and has worked with HSHP since 1980. She resides in the Stackhouse Community.

Steve Michaels, MSW, received his undergraduate education at Penn State University in State College, PA and received his MSW degree from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.  He had worked at the Blue Ridge Center for 22 years, at the Madison County office since 1984 before joining HSHP.  He is interested in helping develop the Behavioral Health service at HSHP as a new member of the provider staff.  Steve lives in Madison County with his wife and two children. He enjoys living and working in a close, rural community, and various outdoor activities outside of work.  Steve is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Nicole Ogg, MD, received her undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin, and her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Dr. Ogg completed a residency in family practice with MAHEC. She is a native of Texas and currently resides in Weaverville with her spouse and 3 dogs. Her hobbies include doing stained glass, hiking, jogging and community involvement. Dr. Ogg has worked with HSHP since 2001. She enjoys serving Madison County and the people who live here. Dr. Ogg says she most enjoys the family atmosphere of the staff.  Everyone is very friendly and supportive toward each other, which also carries over into our relationships with those we serve the patients. Madison County offers a very diverse population as well as a lot of deep-rooted culture. Everyday brings a new experience.  Dr. Ogg is board certified.

Kristi Schleder, MD, received her undergraduate degree from Western Illinois University and graduated from medical school at South Illinois University. She is a native of Chenoa, IL, and currently lives in Asheville, NC. Dr. Schleder completed a residency in family practice with MAHEC and has been in practice with HSHP since 1990. She enjoys the great staff at HSHP, and the friendly and inspiring people of Madison County. Dr. Schleder is board certified.

Louis A. Schroeder, MD, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Louisville in 1971, and his medical degree from the same institution in 1975. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine there in 1978. He is originally from Louisville, KY. Dr. Schroeder lives in Madison County. He has practiced medicine since 1978, and has worked with HSHP for 21 years.
Dr. Schroeder enjoys serving the people of Madison County.

Dennis Seely, Physician Assistant (PA-C), received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the State University of New York College at Cortland and graduated as a Physician Assistant from Duke University Medical School. Seely is a native of Canandaigua, NY, and has also lived in Indiana and in Alaska. He now lives in the Hot Springs area. He has been in practice since 1995, and has been with HSHP for 7 years. Seely says he loves the family atmosphere at HSHP and couldn't ask for a better group of people to work with. He enjoys serving the people of Madison County and working in a rural setting.

Nettie White, MD, received her undergraduate degree from Duke University in 1972 and graduated from the University of Arizona, Tucson, School of Medicine in 1982. She completed a one year residency in Family Practice in Asheville, then a two year residency in Internal Medicine at The University Medical Center in Tucson and a final year at the Asheville VA and Duke University. A native of Washington, DC, Dr. White has been with HSHP since 1993. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and has a special interest in geriatrics, end of life care, and integrative medicine. Dr. White enjoys working with the wonderful patients and staff at HSHP. Dr. White lives in Madison County with her beautiful adopted daughter Emily Rose, who is from China.
